Roberto Oliván

Roberto Oliván was born in Tortosa (Tarragona) on 12th November 1972.

He trained as a dancer between the years 1992 and 1994 in the Institute of Theatre in Barcelona and between the years 1994 and 1996 in the P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) in Brussels (Belgium).

He was a dancer in the Rosas Dance Company, the artistic director of which was Anne Teresa de Keersmaker, in Brussels (Belgium) between the years 1997 and 2000 participating in the shows: Just before (1997), Would and Drumming (1998), I said I and Achterland in 1999 and In Real Time in 2000.

In April 2003 he founded the company Roberto Oliván Enclave Dance Company in Brussels with which he has presented the shows De farra (2003) and Homeland (2006).

As a choreographer and teacher he has given classes and workshops and made creations for P.A.R.T.S., Rosas, Needcompany, Danscentrum Jette, Central Theatre in Sevilla, the Institute of Theatre in Barcelona, 1x2x3 asbl Fatou Traore, Feria Música (Music Fair), The Royal Ballet School of Antwerp (Belgium), École Supériore des Arts du Cirque (ESAC – Advanced School of Circus Arts), Korean National University of Arts (South Korea), Iceland Dance Company, Iceland Academy of Arts, Vértigo Dance Company... And he has given repertory classes in the Rosas Dance Company in Johannesburg, Buenos Aires, Brussels and Caracas.

Roberto Oliván has also been the Artistic Director of the Tortosa International Contemporary Dance Workshop since the year 2004. This workshop is held on an annual basis in the month of July and dancers and students from all over the world participate in it.
